One Room Challenge Fall 2017 Week 4 - Games Room

Huge transformations happening over here in my basement!

The mantel is in and I couldn't be more happy!  The tile is in too!  I looooove it!

And this barn door!  Makes my heart sin!

The kitchen is done and the shelves are up!  I did a little comprimizing... My son really wanted red brick.  It wasn't quite the modern feel I was looking for.  So I went with this black brick tile from Olympia Tile and had it installed in a herringbone pattern.  And I LOOOOOVE it!

The shelves came from IKEA.  I bought the cheaper of the wood countertops.  Gotta save where I can!  EXCEPT that I discovered the under side of the countertop isn't wood!  I was so happy when I flipped them the opposite ways.  The tops facing down on the top shelf and the bottom facing up.  Voila!  You'd never know.

I got some major inspiration from Bre Purposed reno of her laundry/mudroom.  I used her idea for the shelf brackets.  You need to check it out here.  It just happens to be another One Room Challenge from a previous year.  I've gathered so much inspiration from her little reno.  For #grapevinewhistlerreno too!

I added a little shelf, for people to sit to chat or watch the rousing ping pong game.  Recovering the stools is next weeks project!

These great brackets and some gold spray paint!

I've been a little stuck on the coffee table.  The table I wanted only came in white, not black like I wanted.  So I put the white one on my patio and took my patio table, gave it a good wipe down and a thick coat of black spray paint (I'm kinda known as the spray paint queen).

VOILA!

I always loved this pattern from Tonic Living, especially in a roman shade.  I can't wait to see it installed!

Don't forget to check out all the transformations.  It's super fun to see everyones progress.  Click here.  #oneroomchallenge

Next week I'm accessorizing!  Then the final reveal!  Eek.. still gotta get some seating and a light fixture!

One Room Challenge Fall 2017 Week 3 - Games Room

On to week three and things are starting to happen!  Sadly, this is not my room, but don't you just love it?
Source unknown

The fireplace is being transformed by Fourt Construction...

Next up the mantle!  Could be the best part of the basement reno!  Can't wait to share next week!

Ive let go of the dream of a round table (sigh).  I have my mom's kitchen table sitting in my garage.  It was my Grandma's too.  It is not in perfect shape, but it is just a reminder of the hundreds of family dinners we have eaten at this table.  And lets be honest... there will be more proof of use once my kids are done with it!!

I decided to go with these shelves because I liked how they coordinated with my table, and I love the modern lines.  The kids are already playing games down here!

I am on the hunt for the perfect light fixture.  We put a fixture above the ping pong table because it was suppose to be a pool table.  So naturally I can't have anything breakable.  Its only a matter of time before someone breaks the bulb anyway.  I think a rattan pendant would be perfect.  Can someone please explain to me why on earth rattan pendants are so blessed expensive!  Its a basket people! Thank goodness for IKEA's Sinnerlig pendant.  You can find it here

Unfortunately I need something more semi-flush.   We wouldn't want to obstruct my families view of the TV (sigh).  So my hunt continues.  I do have a little trick up my sleeve.  Ill keep it to myself for now in case it is a massive fail!

Im not using the Sinnerlig pendant, but I did buy the Stockholm armchairs from IKEA.   They are without cushions right now because I can't decide between the white or grey.  White would be crazy impractical, but oh so pretty.

While on the subject of IKEA, I must tell you a little piece of advice.  I thought I would save some time and order my IKEA items online.  There is a $20 fee to pick up in store.  SOLD!  My husband thought $20 was well worth not being dragged around the store.  However... you only have 2 days to pick up the items you have purchased online!  Imagine my frustration when I get there a few days later to find that everything has been put back and my visa credited (minus the $20 pick up fee of course!) . I have since repurchased everything online and I can tell you there was no mention that everything would be returned if I didn't pick up in 48 hours.  GRRR....

I recently came across this picture and was convinced to do black brick tile... in a hexagon pattern!  I found the perfect tile at my favourite tile supplier Olympia tile.  See it here

Ive been busy collecting cushions.  You are going to love what I found!!  Check in next week when I show you some of the pretties Im gathering, which will hopefully include some gorgeous baskets like these!

My to do list....  See you next week!

One Room Challenge Fall 2017 Week 2 - Games Room

Week two and things are being set in motion!  Ive met with the contractor from Fourt Construction, who is going to coordinate the project.  For such a small project, why would I need help coordinating... you may ask?    Well, I need someone to put the kitchen together, tear the fireplace apart, re-drywall; someone to put up shelves and coordinate trades - 'cause Im dying over here getting caught up!  What trades could we possibly need??  We need a gas fitter to move the fireplace, plumber to plumb the sink and faucet in the bar kitchen, an electrician to move some things around for the TV, a tiler, a painter, audio/video guys and a drapery installer.  Throw in having the furniture delivered, the shelves installed and the barn door hung.  GAH!  Even small projects are not for the faint of heart!

Here is my inspiration board.  I have decided on the Retreat Sofa from Van Gogh Designs.  ORDERED (check).  I really like the Master chairs from Structube to sit around the table.  ORDERED (check)... feeling good.

The rest of it I am not sure about yet.  I missed out on winning the most gorgeous elephant picture at the New Life Gala event ( check out our Facebook page here).  But Im hoping my friends in Kibaale will pull through for me and I'll be able to get one. (its good to have connections :).

I did purchase gorgeous fur bean bag chairs from Restoration Hardware.  They arrived in the most massive boxes.  My kids wanted to live right in the centre of each of them and survive on Netflix and popcorn.  However after a day of these activities the entire basement was covered in fur!  They shed so badly.  I was able to return them to RH without a problem!

IKEA has a lovely new black door style - Kungsbacka.  Its made out of recycled materials, and looks great!  Win/Win!

My son wants rustic brick for the kitchen backspash.  Im thinking maybe cement tiles (insert dreamy face here).  I wrote about my struggle with cement tiles in a blogpost awhile back.  Read about it here and tell me what you think!

Would this tile not looks gorgeous???

Here is the sketch (don't judge) of my mantle .  Im really excited to see it come to life!  Except for the massive TV sitting above it.  Im not excited to see that come to life.  My family is though (sigh).

Things are happening.  Can't wait to share more next week!  Dont forget to browse through all the amazing room transformations here

One Room Challenge Fall 2017 Week 1 - Games Room

Welcome to my One Room Challenge! Over the next six weeks I plan to overhaul this rather large games room in our basement.  Cant wait to walk through this process with you!

When we built our house 6 years ago, we considered leaving the basement unfinished.  However, they say when you are building to do it right the first time because you may never go back to it.  So we finished the basement, but didn't decorate it.  I'm glad we at least finished the space, because this is what it has looked like since then!

I chose contemporary corrugated aluminum for the original fireplace.  However, it was quickly up without plans or instruction from me.  The cutout for the TV was in the wrong place, and it was suppose to have a mantle to deflect the heat from the fireplace.  So we are now onto new and better things!

We utilized the area under the stairs for storage of the endless toys and dress up clothes!  We put the plumbing in for a bar kitchen - which I am super thankful for now!

Inspired by my recent trip to Africa, I thought I would go for a bit of a tribal theme.  I am going completely throw all things "LISA" out the window and go for a colourless scheme!  (gasp) . Black and White here I come!  Of course I have touches of gold in the plans.  I mean, I can't completely abandon my true self!

In this long rectangular space we want a TV to have sports on while playing a board game.  I love the idea of a round table for playing cards.  Some shelves for storing photo books, games and pretty things (that hopefully won't get smashed by exuberant boys!) . Bean bag chairs for chilling with friends.  And a bar kitchen... so the kids can eat and drink downstairs!!??  I may have to rethink that one!

Our kids are at the age where they love hanging out with their friends.  I really want to create a loungey (not sure if that is a word) type space for them to be.  I love the tribal - loungey feeling of this room.  Although I may have to resort to a sofa.

This basement hangout is light and bright.  You don't feel like you are in a basement.  That is the goal for my space.

This week I have to hire my contractor, and make some serious decisions.  I look forward to sharing the ups and downs of this process.  Stay tuned!

Make sure you check out the other bloggers here as they set out to transfer a room in six weeks.
