Canadian House and Home

This is me...  Lisa Joy Moody.  An uncomfortably large picture of me, but none the less... me.  The incredibly talented photographer that took this picture of me is Janis Nicolay of Pinecone Camp.  I'm sure you wouldn't guess that these pictures were taken on the darkest, dreariest day of the year!  I kid you not, it looked like the apocolypse was happening outside!!!  Somehow Janis worked miracles with the light!  The photo shoot was done in November for the March issue of House and Home magazine.

And this is my kitchen.  Just how it is pictured in House and Home magazine.

To see the rest of the article you really should run out right now and grab your copy of the March issue of House and Home.  The next issue will be on newstands soon.  If you get there and April's issue is already there, go ahead and buy it.  Its a great read too!

So as you can imagine I was squeeling (literally) with excitement to hear that House and Home wanted to feature my kitchen along with some other very talented designers! (blush)  I had tonnes of fun getting things ready.  Although nice spring flowers were a bit of a challenge in November!

My family room was ready as well, but only the kitchen was needed for the article.

And here is Janis, doing her magic...

This has been an exciting year.  I have been in the interior design industry for 19 years.  I have just put my head down and worked really hard.  I can't tell you how exciting it is that people are noticing.  Stay tuned for more exciting features planned for later this year.  Keep your eye out for the June publication of House and Home where I talk about my outdoor kitchen!

Recently when Janis shot another project for me, she popped over for some pictures of me in my office.

So that's the last time for quite awhile that I will post pictures of me.  Just wanted to share the pictures Janis shot.

Have a great weekend!

Master Bedroom Design

This has to top as one of my favorite rooms I've done.  There wasn't a lot of space to work with, and practically some big challenges.  But the clients were beyond lovely.... being some of our dearest of friends :)  And it helps that they have impeccable taste.  So aside from the cow hide (wink)  I didn't have to work at convincing them on any of the design elements.  And there were lots of good suggestions on their part.

The Redford House side tables are lovely....  did I mention we are offering a sale on Redford House until the end of the month??

We chose to remove the cabinet under this awkward wall, push it back and put in open shelves.  The contractor was able to take wood from under the shelves and replace it where the small wall once stood.  They matched it perfectly!  It really opened up this corner.

I had always envisioned this paneled wall/office built in, and I'm thrilled with the results!  The Barbara Barry wall sconces are not too shabby either!!  LOOOOVE!

The fan was a must.  The room can be warm.  They previously had a standing fan in the room, so it just made sense to install this beauty.  Fan and beauty are not normally in the same sentence, but if there ever was a lovely fan, this was it.  I strongly encouraged all white just so that it didn't draw ANY attention.

This bedroom is an oasis for a very busy couple with 4 children!  Late evenings consist of tea and tv as they wind down for the night.  So the TV posed a bit of an issue... as it usually does with good design :)  We had Westland build this cabinet where the tv came right out with a remote control when needed.  And tucks safely away into this stunning piece to reveal lovely windows and outside window boxes brimming with flowers

The corner unit with the fireplace was frankly, ugly.  I knew marble was right up the clients alley.  Plus, while in bed the fireplace is virtually unseen.   So we had the fireplace raised and a linear unit installed.  The wall was framed to the ceiling and tiled with exquisite Calcutta marble.  This was no easy feat for the guys working with all the angles.  But the result is just as I envisioned.

I am so thankful for this project and to work with my lovely friend.  Im also thankful for Westland Developments who did the contruction, cabinetry and tiling.  One more thanks to the photographer who makes every room look sunny: Janis Nicolay

Happy Weekend,

New and Trending for 2014

As we've turned the corner on another year, its time to look ahead and see where things are going in design, plus look at some of the fun new things available through GF&D!  Here we go:

This year we are seeing a big trend towards glamour!  This picture has many of the features that a glam interior represents:

Dark dramatic feature walls or room with the trim painted same as wall colour (although trim should be painted in a slightly glossier finish than the walls).

LUCITE tables continue to be popular.  You'll see more now with gold accents and interesting shapes.

Interesting light fixtures.  It's time to step out of the box and embrace something other than your traditional chandelier.  Thankfully I hopped on this bandwagon when we built our home.  And I'm so glad I did.  Here are some of my light fixtures:

I'm seeing these articulating wall lights more and more, and I'm loving them!  Would love to put 2 in my office.

I'm longing to add something like this to my portfolio:  a statement wall!

Although it may be a little hard to see... this dining room from one of my favorite designers, Nam Dang-Mitchel, has a gorgeous statement wall behind the dining room side board.  This wallpaper is from Gracie Handpainted Wallpapers

And the lovelies pictured below are available through Anewall Decor

Mixing metals is another trends that Ive been working with for quite awhile and embraced in my own home.  This year we are seeing it bigger than ever!  Here is a pictures depicting just that.  It's the inspiration picture for my client's master bedroom.

As for GF&D, we are looking forward to 2014.  We have some interesting projects lined up, and very much look forward to what House and Home magazine has to say about me and my kitchen in the March issue!  Plus our website will be updated by the end of January.

Here are some new products coming through our doors this year:

We have a great appreciation for this company.  They are providing stylish pieces at a great price point.

And a new account for us is this company.  We've been looking for comfortable bergere chairs, and these ones are gorgeous!  A lightly distressed greige (thats beige and grey mixed together... if you didn't know - ha) wood, and lovely linen upholstery.  Super comfy too!

These are probably the most exciting additions to our selection from a company we've been ordering from for years.

Well, that about sums it up for now.  If you'd like to follow us and stay up to date in our world of design, you can follow us via Pinterest, Bloglovin, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
